Spotting a pest in or around your home makes you want to do anything you can to get rid of it. But after you welcome a newborn baby to your home, you become concerned with some of those options. That newborn’s safety is now your No. 1 priority, and you need pest control safe for babies.
Right away, parents know they want to avoid using any chemicals in the presence of their child. They become extra cautious when that child is a newborn. Trained professionals properly using chemicals, however, can be far less of a danger to your baby than the pests present.
Numerous pests can put you and your family at risk of bites, sores, rashes or disease. Some of those pests that can be found around your home include rodents, ants, fleas, bedbugs, and roaches. Once they find shelter and a food source, they want to stick around and make your home their own. As soon as they do get into your food, they can contaminate that supply before you even know of their existence.
Adults and older children have stronger immune systems than babies and infants, who may not have the strength to fight off potential illnesses that can be contracted from these pests. No parent wants their child to experience itching or other discomfort, or worse, to develop an allergic reaction.
Because of the risks involved with pests and your child’s health, you want to eliminate the threat as soon as possible.
It is possible for you to create a good defense around your home without the use of chemicals. The first step is to inspect the perimeter of your house and look for possible entry points. Tiny holes, cracks, gaps or crevices all are an invitation for pests, so seal off those spaces. Look at areas around windows and doors, and properly seal the edges and repair any broken screens.
Good lawn and garden maintenance go a long way, too. Cut back any branches that encroach the space near your home and trim bushes and shrubs. Keep the exterior of your house tidy too, by cleaning vents and gutters.
You can place bait traps in areas you suspect could be at risk. The space around utilities and pipes can sometimes be wide enough to allow pests inside, and your garage makes another haven for them to escape the elements.
When pesticides are required, know that many of them are safe for household use. This will provide you with the peace of mind that you, your family, and your baby will be kept safe.
In some scenarios, you may need to leave your home while a technician works, but you can return relatively quickly when the work is done. Just follow any precautions left by the technician, and you can enjoy your pest-free home just as you did before.
The only welcome creature you want in your home is your newborn baby.
